The event, which included speeches, prayers and patriotic music, marked the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Organizer Dave Coy said he event was held not only to remember those killed and injured in the attacks, but also to come together and pray for the leaders of the nation who will make decisions that affect all citizens.

MES Time Capsule Buried

Students, faculty, staff, administrators and the community gathered around the new Milton Elementary School for a special dedication ceremony. The fun-filled ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting in the new gymnasium and the burial of a time capsule that was filled with mementos from the old Milton Elementary School and other items from the last year. Principal Sharon James, Superintendent Marcia Haney Dunaway and sixth-grade student Evan Simmons helped bury the time capsule to commemorate the opening of the new elementary school.

AND THE WINNERS ARE: The Miss Trimble County pageant was held Tuesday with Stacey Corry, winning the 2009 title. Other winners were Tiffany Morgan, third runner-up and People’s Choice; Kindoll Jones, first runner-up and Miss Congeniality; Corry; and Rachel Barnes, second runner-up. The 2009 Trimble County Fair runs through Saturday.
