  • SEYMOUR — Madison Post 9 played flawless baseball in the field in a pair of must-win games on Saturday, but on Sunday defense let the Niners down. Madison committed four errors — three in the crucial fifth and sixth innings — in dropping a 10-6 decision to host Seymour Post 89 in the American Legion Sectional Championship Sunday. The loss ended Madison’s run of 25-straight sectional crowns, but it couldn’t diminish the team’s performance on Saturday.

  • For the second-straight game, Madison Post 9 pounded out 15 hits in an impressive display of offense. But, for the second straight game, the Niners also committed four errors and that shoddy defense led to their demise. Madison erased an early 6-0 deficit against Lafayette Post 11 by scoring nine-straight runs in the loser's bracket of the American Legion Baseball State Finals Saturday at Shawe High School. But two errors in the eighth led to five Lafayette runs and the result was a 12-9 loss that eliminated Madison from the tournament.

Only the name and faces changed on Friday when the Niners opened the 2005 sectional with an eight inning 10-0 win over Versailles Post 173.
