  • Dr. H. Schirmer Riley walks back to his seat as Donna Kruger, left, thanks him for speaking at a memorial service for his late wife, Janis, on the Madison riverfront Thursday. The memorial was presented by members of the Southeastern Medical Alliance Physician Spouses group and included the dedication of a red oak sapling and a brick reading “In loving memory of Janis Riley.” Janis Riley died April 15. She and Dr. Riley had been married since October 1946. During the presentation, both of Janis’ children, Sam Riley of Dallas, Texas, and Linda Joy Riley Cornett of Georgetown, Ky., spoke about their mother and, like their father, they gave much credit for the doctor’s success in Madison to Janis.
