Conner Maginn, left, and Kyle Chambers practice a song and dance number in front of a chorus line during a rehearsal for the upcoming Madison Theatre production of Irving Berlin’s musical “White Christmas” at Madison Consolidated High School.
Before the rehearsal, Maginn, Chambers and co-stars Katie Walters and Kacie Rowlett presented a check for $500 to Amy Perkins, executive director of Pathways Youth Shelter and Family Services. The donation was from the theater parents group. Other characters in the “White Christmas” cast include Claire Schell in an Oxydol detergent box.

A 1969 Mercury that was smashed when it overturned on Hanging Rock Hill on Wednesday awaits towing while the tow truck driver cleans up the roadway. Police said Shane Rowlett, 16, of 1664 Telegraph Hill Road, was northbound on Cragmont Street around 8:40 a.m. and crossed the double yellow line to pass another car. When he went back into his lane, he lost control of his car and went up the embankment on the east side of the road, police said. His car rolled onto its top in the road, police said. Bark was stripped from a tree next to the road by his car. Rowlett was taken to King’s Daughters’ Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said. Restoration work at Kent church

David Cart of Vintage Restorations paints the pressed tin ceiling in the sanctuary of Kent United Methodist Church on Monday. Cart’s work, which included repair near the church bell tower in addition to painting, should be done in about two weeks.
Cart does most of his work with churches and other nonprofit organizations. He helped with a major restoration project at Deputy United Methodist Church several years ago, worked on the Historic Madison Inc. restoration of the Francis Costigan House and will work on another church outside the county this winter.
The Kent church ceiling had been painted a flat white years ago. Cart found traces of the original colors while scraping the tin and is restoring those colors. He said the depth and complexity of the ceiling tile design had been lost in its all-white coating.
“Now the detail will be hard to miss,” Cart said.
